The Arenal Bird Count 2025 once again confirmed that Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails is one of the top birdwatching destinations in Costa Rica.
During an intensive birding day from 5:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., seven observers explored rainforest trails around Arenal Volcano and recorded 112 bird species across diverse habitats.

The unique combination of tropical rainforest, open areas, wetlands, and views of Lake Arenal makes this region a biodiversity hotspot for both experienced birders and nature travelers.
Species observed included toucans, tanagers, hummingbirds, oropendolas, migratory warblers, and iconic birds such as the Great Curassow and the Keel-billed Toucan.
Beyond the numbers, the event highlights the lodge’s strong commitment to conservation, sustainable tourism, and habitat protection, reinforcing Arenal’s reputation as one of the premier birding locations in Central America.
