There are about 900 species of birds that can be observed in Costa Rica, an impressive number for such a small country. At Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails we have recognized more than 500 species in our forests, making our hotel a favorite destination for bird watching in Costa Rica.

Well-marked trails through primary and secondary forests and open-air pastures on a 800-acre property offer abundant bird-watching opportunities.

Some of the most spectacular birds are: Bellbirds, Crestonian Guans, Orange-bellied Trogon, White Hawk, Laughing Hawk, Red Parrots, Green Herons, Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Chestnut-jawed Toucans and many more.
