Smithsonian

The Smithsonian rooms at Arenal Observatory Lodge & Trails were named after the scientists from the Smithsonian Institution in the United States who began coming to the area in 1970 to study the Arenal Volcano. Our hotel was originally built to accommodate a group of scientists, students and occasional tourists visiting the Arenal and La Fortuna area of Costa Rica.

These rooms are located either in the main building near the hotel restaurant or near the pool area, they have large windows framing the majestic Arenal Volcano, Arenal Lake or the wonderful tropical forest or garden. Smithsonian rooms have two double beds, private bathroom, terrace, coffee maker and safe. Five rooms are fully equipped for disabled people and wheelchair access.
